Mercer County, NJ (August 22, 2026) – Early Saturday morning, August 22, emergency crews and New Jersey State Police troopers responded to a multi-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on Interstate 195 East. The crash occurred near milepost 4.4 at approximately 5:09 a.m.
Preliminary state police investigations, a Sunhou motorcycle, two Toyota passenger cars, and a Honda SUV were all traveling eastbound when the motorcycle operator lost directional control and was ejected onto the roadway. Following the initial loss of control, the Honda SUV struck the rear of both Toyota passenger vehicles in a chain-reaction collision.
Paramedics treated four individuals, including the motorcycle operator, the driver of the Honda SUV, and two juvenile passengers, for non-life-threatening injuries before transporting them via ambulance to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and care.
An investigation is ongoing.
Our thoughts remain with the injured victims, especially the young children, as they recover.
Primary medical coverage for motor vehicle injuries in New Jersey is governed by Personal Injury Protection (PIP) regulations. Under this system, injured drivers and policyholders submit initial medical claims directly through their own mandatory PIP insurance policy regardless of which driver caused the crash. For injured minor children, medical benefits are typically covered through a parent or legal guardian's policy under state statutory provisions.
Pursuing financial compensation beyond medical coverage requires evaluating fault under New Jersey's modified comparative negligence law. An injured individual can recover damages provided their share of fault is 50 percent or less, with the total monetary award reduced proportionally by their assigned percentage of responsibility.
In addition to proving fault, claims must comply with strict statutory deadlines. Under New Jersey law, the general statute of limitations for adults to file a personal injury lawsuit is two years from the incident date. However, the law provides a statutory exception for minors, tolling the two-year time limit until the child reaches 18 years of age.
