What Can a Wrongful Death Claim Cover After a Pedestrian Crash in Elizabeth, NJ?

A wrongful death claim after a pedestrian crash in Elizabeth, NJ may allow eligible family members to seek compensation for certain financial losses connected to their loved one's death. The potential claim can include expenses resulting from the death as well as the financial contributions the person would have provided to the family.

Funeral and burial costs are often among the first expenses a family must address. Depending on the circumstances, these costs may become part of a wrongful death claim rather than remaining solely with the family.

Beyond those immediate expenses, the loss of income can have a lasting effect on a household. Employment history, earnings, and other financial information may help establish what the deceased contributed and what the family may have lost as a result.

The family relationship can matter as well. A person's role within the household may involve more than a paycheck, and the loss of household services or other contributions may be relevant when a potential claim is evaluated.

Meanwhile, the circumstances of the pedestrian crash still need to be established. Since the available information does not explain how the person was struck, additional details from the investigation may become relevant to any legal review.

Insurance can also factor into the process. The policy connected to the vehicle may need to be identified, and questions about available coverage can affect how a potential claim is pursued.

For families considering legal action, a wrongful death lawyer or a personal injury lawyer can review the available information and explain who may be eligible to bring a claim, what losses may be considered, and how the process generally works. Legal guidance can also help the family address questions as more information about the crash becomes available.
