After a motorcycle accident in Union, getting medical attention should be the priority for anyone who may be hurt. Once immediate needs are addressed, documenting injuries, treatment, and other effects can help preserve important information. Even when injuries do not appear serious at first, keeping track of symptoms and following medical recommendations can help create a record of what follows.
Information about the motorcycle and other vehicles involved may also become useful. When it is safe to do so, photographs of the motorcycle, vehicle damage, roadway, traffic signs, lane markings, and surrounding conditions can preserve details that may later change. Insurance information and contact details should also be retained when available.
Witnesses can provide another source of information about how the accident occurred. People who saw the motorcycle before or during the collision may be able to describe what they observed. Their names and contact information can be valuable if accounts later differ. Nearby businesses or properties may also have surveillance footage from the surrounding area.
As treatment continues, keeping medical records together can help document injuries and related expenses. Hospital records, diagnostic testing, prescriptions, follow-up appointments, and medical bills may all be relevant to a potential claim. Other losses, such as missed work, transportation expenses, motorcycle repairs, or other out-of-pocket costs, should also be documented when applicable.
Insurance questions may become more complicated when a motorcycle is involved, particularly if responsibility for the accident is disputed. A lawyer can review photographs, medical records, witness information, insurance documents, and other available evidence to explain potential legal options under New Jersey law.
