Woodland Park, NJ (October 1, 2026) – Four vehicles were involved in a wreck in the right lane of I-80 West around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, October 1.
Emergency crews and Woodland Park Fire rushed to the scene to assist everyone involved and manage traffic in the area. Authorities have not disclosed the full extent of the injuries.
It is not clear the sequence of events that led to the pileup, and officials continue to investigate.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected and we wish them a full recovery.
When more than one driver may share responsibility for an accident, New Jersey law asks a jury, or an insurer during negotiations, to assign each party a percentage of fault.
Under the Comparative Negligence Act, an injured person can still recover damages as long as that person's share is not greater than the combined share of the parties being sued. Those percentages of fault then adjust the final amount.
The percentages are crucial to help determine who pays for the losses. If a party is found 60 percent or more responsible, they can be required to pay the full amount of a judgment. Meanwhile, a party found less than 60 percent generally pays only its own share.
That difference can shape how insurers on separate policies evaluate a claim and which coverage limits come into play. Disputes typically turn on photographs, vehicle damage patterns, event data recorder information, dashcam video, and witness statements, much of which can be lost within days or weeks.
If you have been involved in a crash where fault may be shared among several drivers, our team at the Law Offices of Sander Budanitsky can help you sort out how the percentages may apply and what early steps you could take.
