Union, NJ (October 13, 2026) – Three vehicles collided on North Avenue near Morris Avenue in Union on Monday, October 12. The wreck occurred at about 6:36 p.m. near a college.
Initial reports indicated that the collision involved a pickup truck with deployed airbags and two Nissan Altimas. One Altima had damage to its rear, while the other had front-end damage.
The pickup driver was expected to undergo a medical evaluation. Other occupants reportedly said they were fine. A tow truck was requested, and firefighters were called to check for possible fluid leaks.
Authorities are working to determine what caused the vehicles to collide.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the crash.
Determining fault after a multi-vehicle crash in Union depends on how the vehicles collided and what each driver did before the crash. Speed, following distance, lane changes, and attention to traffic can all matter. Sometimes, more than one driver is responsible.
To piece together what happened, crash reports, photos, available video, vehicle damage, and accounts from people who saw the collision can help. Damage to the front or rear of a vehicle does not automatically mean that its driver was at fault.
While you recover from your injuries, your personal injury protection (PIP) coverage may help pay medical bills regardless of who caused the crash. How much is covered depends on your policy limits and whether you selected health insurance as your primary medical coverage.
Beyond medical bills, you may be able to recover lost wages, reduced earning capacity, property damage, and pain and suffering. However, New Jersey’s limitation-on-lawsuit option may restrict pain-and-suffering claims unless your injuries meet certain legal requirements.
If more than one driver caused the crash, each may be assigned a percentage of fault. Your compensation may be reduced by your share of responsibility, and you generally cannot recover damages if you are more than 50% at fault.
In New Jersey, you generally have two years to file a personal injury lawsuit, although some exceptions may apply. If you miss the deadline for your case, you could lose the right to seek compensation in court.
If insurance companies disagree about who caused the crash, a Union car accident lawyer can review the evidence and help establish each driver’s role. An attorney can also communicate with insurers and handle the paperwork for you.
