Fatal Scooter Crashes in Elizabeth, NJ: What Families Can Do
When a loved one is killed in a crash involving a turning vehicle, the family may have legal options worth exploring. In New Jersey, the family of someone who lost their life in a collision caused by another driver’s negligence may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim. This type of claim can seek compensation for funeral costs, lost financial support, and the loss of companionship.
A critically hurt passenger in the same crash may also pursue a separate personal injury claim for medical expenses, lost income, and other damages tied to their recovery.
Scooter riders and their passengers have almost no physical protection in a collision. Head trauma, spinal injuries, internal damage, and severe road rash are among the most common outcomes when a rider is struck or thrown.
A passenger who survives a crash of this nature may face a prolonged recovery involving surgery, rehabilitation, and significant time away from work. The financial and emotional toll on both the surviving passenger and the family of the person killed can be substantial and long-lasting.
A wrongful death attorney can help a family understand who may bear responsibility, what insurance coverage applies, and what legal steps may help protect their options in the weeks following a fatal crash.
