Who Pays My Medical Bills After a Pedestrian Accident in Elizabeth, NJ?

After a pedestrian crash in Elizabeth, Personal Injury Protection coverage may pay your medical bills. Coverage may come from your auto policy or a policy held by a family member, regardless of fault. The policy depends on your household and insurance circumstances.

During the days that follow, your care may include testing, follow-up visits, medication, physical therapy, or specialist treatment. Some injuries become noticeable after the initial shock fades. Keeping bills, treatment notes, and insurance letters together can help document the care you received.

Once your PIP benefits end, the responsible driver’s liability coverage may become important. Depending on the facts, you may seek payment for uncovered medical costs, lost income, pain, and other losses. Insurers may still dispute fault, injury severity, or whether your treatment was necessary.

Beyond medical bills, you may face transportation costs, lost income, rehabilitation expenses, and time away from daily responsibilities. Keeping records of appointments, missed work, prescriptions, and related expenses can help document the full financial effect of your injuries.

As your claim moves forward, insurance requests and deadlines may become difficult to manage. Insurers may seek records, statements, authorizations, or proof of your losses. Careful communication can help prevent delays and misunderstandings.

When several policies may apply, figuring out which insurer should pay can become overwhelming. An attorney can review your coverage, communicate with insurers, and identify records that support your claim. A lawyer may also identify compensation available beyond your PIP benefits.
