Insurance questions can become more complicated when a delivery vehicle is involved because the driver's personal coverage may not be the only policy potentially relevant to a claim. New Jersey law requires commercial motor vehicles to maintain specified liability coverage, with a $1.5 million minimum for certain commercial motor vehicles.
The specific insurance available depends on how the van was classified, who owned it, and whether the driver was working when the crash occurred. A claim may require reviewing the applicable commercial policy and determining which coverage applies to the circumstances.
In New Jersey, car insurance companies must include coverage that protects you if you're hit by a driver who has no insurance or not enough insurance. When multiple vehicles or insurance policies are involved, determining available coverage may require examining the policies alongside the facts of the crash. A personal injury lawyer can help review those documents and explain how the available coverage could affect a potential claim.
If you have questions about insurance after a commercial-vehicle crash, we can help explain what information may be relevant for your situation. Our team at The Law Offices of Sander Budanitsky can review the available insurance information and explain how New Jersey coverage rules may apply.
