Clinton, NJ (October 30, 2026) – A wreck on Route 31 left two people injured near TownPlace Suites on Thursday evening, October 29.
According to the Hunterdon County Fire Department, emergency units were called to the highway at about 7:23 p.m. The extent of the people’s injuries has not been disclosed.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with both people as they recover.
New Jersey is a no-fault state, so after a car accident, a driver's own policy generally pays medical bills through personal injury protection, typically called PIP. That is true no matter who caused the collision.
PIP limits vary from policy to policy. Standard policies let drivers choose $15,000, $50,000, $75,000, $150,000, or $250,000 in coverage, and a lower limit can run out before treatment ends.
It is also common that drivers name their health insurer as the primary payer for medical bills, which can change how PIP is used. Reviewing those selections early can prevent surprises when bills start to arrive.
A second choice on the policy can matter just as much. Many drivers pick the limitation on lawsuit option because it lowers premiums, but it restricts the ability to sue for pain and suffering.
Under that option, an injured person generally must show a permanent injury or another qualifying injury, such as a displaced fracture or significant scarring, backed by medical evidence.
Policy choices made years ago can shape what a claim looks like today. Our team at The Law Offices of Sander Budanitsky can look over your coverage and explain how PIP limits and lawsuit options generally work in New Jersey.
