Saddle Brook, NJ (October 23, 2026) – Two teenage boys were hospitalized Thursday, October 22, after their e-bike struck a Jeep Cherokee at North Midland Avenue and Schepis Avenue.
According to Saddle Brook Police, the accident happened around 6 p.m. Both boys were taken to a hospital in separate ambulances. One wore a cervical collar. Witnesses said the other looked more seriously injured at first.
The Jeep's driver stayed and cooperated with police. She said she was turning and did not know where the boys came from.
Investigators from several agencies opened a joint investigation into the collision.
Our thoughts are with the boys and their families as they recover.
New Jersey normally gives injured people two years to file a personal injury lawsuit. That period is generally paused while the injured person is under 18 and starts on their 18th birthday. A parent's own claim, such as one for a child's medical bills, may be treated differently, so the two should not be assumed to share the same timeline.
Settlements for children also work differently from adult settlements. In New Jersey, a settlement for a minor generally needs a judge's approval, and the court reviews whether the amount is fair before the case closes. Money awarded to a child may be held in a court-supervised arrangement until adulthood.
A child's injuries can also change as the child grows. Head injuries may cause problems with school or concentration months later, and broken bones can affect development in ways that are hard to see at first. A lawyer who reviews a proposed settlement will commonly ask whether the figure covers future treatment and not only the bills received so far, and that question is easier to answer when treatment records, school notes, and follow-up reports have been kept in one place.
