Student Injured After Vehicle Crashes at John E. Dwyer Tech Academy on Bridge St

Elizabeth, NJ (January 5, 2026) – A vehicle crash at a high school in Elizabeth left a student and a driver injured on Monday, January 5, prompting an investigation by local authorities. The incident occurred shortly after 8:00 a.m. at the John E. Dwyer Technology Academy, located near the intersection of Bridge Street and Pearl Street.

Elizabeth police reported that officers observed a silver vehicle driving erratically along Bridge Street. According to authorities, the car ran a red light at Pearl Street, mounted the curb, traveled across the sidewalk, and ultimately struck an exterior wall of the school’s auditorium.

At the time of the crash, students were present inside the building. One student inside the auditorium suffered a mild leg injury as a result of the impact. Emergency responders evaluated the injured student, and officials later confirmed the injury was not life-threatening.

The driver of the vehicle also sustained injuries described as minor. Medical personnel treated the driver at the scene. Authorities have not released the driver’s identity or confirmed what caused the driver to crash.

Police stated that the cause of the crash remains under active investigation. No charges have been announced at this time, and officials continue reviewing evidence related to the driver’s actions prior to impact.

We hope for a smooth recovery for those injured.

Injury Crashes Involving Schools in New Jersey

Vehicle crashes near schools raise serious safety concerns, especially when they involve sidewalks, crosswalks, or building entrances. In New Jersey, car accidents that occur near school zones can place students and pedestrians at risk even when they are inside buildings or on campus grounds.

When a crash causes injuries, affected individuals may face medical treatment, emotional stress, and disruption to daily life. In situations involving school property, questions often arise about driver behavior, traffic controls, and whether safety measures functioned as intended.

Depending on the facts of the case, injured victims may be able to seek compensation for several types of losses, including:

  • Medical expenses related to emergency care and follow-up treatment
  • Physical therapy or rehabilitation costs
  • Pain and discomfort resulting from the injury
  • Emotional distress and anxiety after a traumatic incident
  • Out-of-pocket expenses tied to recovery

For injured students or pedestrians, families often seek clarity about accountability and future medical needs.

New Jersey law allows injured individuals to explore legal options when another party’s actions contribute to an accident. An experienced personal injury lawyer can help families understand how claims work and what evidence may support their case. These matters often involve police reports, school security footage, and witness accounts.

Insurance companies may begin reviewing claims quickly, especially when a crash gains public attention. Having guidance early can help injured parties avoid confusion and ensure their interests remain protected while they focus on recovery.
