Linden, NJ (July 17, 2026) – Seven people suffered serious injuries late Thursday night, JUly 16, after a car and an SUV collided on Route 1 in Union County.
The wreck happened around 11:50 p.m. when a car exiting Interstate 278 onto Route 1 struck an SUV traveling south. Six people in the car and one person in the SUV were hurt.
All seven were taken to University Hospital in Newark for treatment. No further details about the people involved had been made public.
Linden Police continue to investigate this wreck.
We are thinking of all those hurt as they continue their recovery.
When multiple people are hurt in one crash, insurers will likely rely on the responding officer's police report, any available traffic or dashcam footage, and statements from witnesses who saw how the merge unfolded. Vehicle damage patterns can also help establish which car had the right of way when the collision occurred.
Cases with this many people hurt usually involve overlapping injuries, from fractures and internal injuries to head trauma, and each person's medical treatment and recovery timeline can differ significantly even though they were part of the same wreck.
Because multiple people were hurt in different vehicles, insurance coverage can become complicated quickly, particularly when it comes to how New Jersey's no-fault insurance system applies to each person's medical bills.
A personal injury lawyer can help accident victims understand how their own PIP coverage interacts with a potential claim against the at-fault driver. New Jersey requires a modified comparative negligence standard, which barriers recovery if a person is found 51 percent or more at fault, and injury claims generally must be filed within two years of the crash.
Cases that involve several injured people can move in different directions depending on each person's circumstances. At The Law Offices of Sander Budanitsky, we can help explain how this kind of claim typically works, and specifically how it would work for your case.
