Driver Killed After SUV Breaks Down on New Jersey Tpke

Linden, NJ (January 30, 2026) – A 69-year-old man was struck and killed early Thursday morning, January 29, on the New Jersey Turnpike after exiting his disabled SUV.

According to authorities, Larry Larobis, a resident of the Port Reading section of Woodbridge, was standing beside his vehicle at approximately 5:20 a.m. near milepost 96.9 when another SUV traveling in the right lane struck him and the left rear of his disabled SUV. Larobis’ vehicle was reported to be straddling the right lane and right shoulder at the time of the crash.

Emergency responders arrived quickly but unfortunately pronounced Larobis dead at the scene, about a mile north of Exit 12. Local Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

Our sincere condolences go out to Mr. Larobis’ family, friends, and loved ones during this tragic time.

Can a Lawyer Help After a Fatal Traffic Accident in New Jersey?

A lawyer experienced in New Jersey motor vehicle accidents and wrongful death cases can review the circumstances of your loved one’s crash. This includes analyzing road conditions, weather factors, vehicle maintenance, driver behavior, and whether negligence or recklessness contributed to the accident.

Legal guidance is especially important when liability is unclear or when multiple parties, such as drivers, vehicle owners, or commercial transportation companies, may share responsibility.

Families may be entitled to file wrongful death claims in New Jersey, which can help cover funeral and burial expenses, lost income or financial support, medical costs incurred before death, emotional distress, and other damages caused by the loss of a loved one.

While investigations by local authorities determine what happened, they do not always address a family’s financial or emotional needs.

A New Jersey wrongful death attorney can help interpret investigation findings, gather additional evidence such as witness statements, surveillance footage, and accident reports, and explain how these details impact potential claims. They can also guide families through insurance processes, meet legal deadlines, and advocate for fair compensation in cases involving multiple liable parties.
