Union, NJ (October 15, 2026) – A hit-and-run crash left a man critically injured at 262 Chestnut Street in Union. The crash was reported at approximately 7:40 p.m.
According to the Union Police Department, a gray Dodge Durango struck the pedestrian before fleeing toward Roselle Park. The injured man, believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, has not yet been identified.
The man was found unresponsive and bleeding from a serious head injury. He was taken to University Hospital, where he reportedly remained critically injured and sedated.
The Union Police Department continues to investigate what led to the collision and asks anyone with information about the driver or Dodge Durango, which may have front-end damage, to come forward.
We hope the injured man makes a full and steady recovery.
After a hit-and-run crash in Union, you may be able to seek medical benefits, use uninsured motorist coverage, or pursue a claim against the driver if identified. Your options depend on the circumstances and available insurance coverage.
While you receive treatment, applicable personal injury protection (PIP) coverage may help pay your medical bills regardless of fault. These benefits may be available through your own auto insurance policy or a qualifying household member’s policy.
If the driver remains unidentified, uninsured motorist coverage may provide another way to seek compensation for your injuries. Whether you qualify depends on the terms of your policy, reporting requirements, and available coverage limits.
If police identify the driver, you may pursue compensation through their liability insurance. Your claim may cover medical expenses, lost income, future treatment, and eligible pain and suffering. You do not need a criminal conviction to pursue compensation.
In some cases, New Jersey allows punitive damages when a driver intentionally puts others at risk or shows a serious disregard for their safety. However, leaving the crash site does not automatically mean these damages can be awarded.
In New Jersey, you generally have two years from the date of the crash to file a personal injury lawsuit. Although some exceptions apply, waiting too long could mean losing your chance to recover compensation through the courts.
A pedestrian accident lawyer can review your case and help determine what insurance coverage may be available to you. An attorney can also help resolve coverage disputes and communicate with insurance companies on your behalf.
