Summit, NJ (July 31, 2026) – Two people were hurt Friday morning, July 31, in a wreck near Mountain Avenue and Elm Street.

The crash was reported around 11:27 a.m. The Summit Police and EMS requested a backup crew to help treat a male patient with a contusion, along with another patient reporting neck pain.

The extent of both people's injuries has not been confirmed. Additional details about the crash have not been made public.

The circumstances leading up to the collision are still being reviewed.

We hope both people recover fully.

Why Crash Injuries Shouldn't Be Ignored in Summit, NJ

Injuries reported right after a crash can seem manageable in the moment but deserve more attention than they get. Adrenaline can mask pain for hours after a collision, so a bruise or ache at the scene doesn't always reflect the full extent of what's actually going on underneath.

Not getting prompt treatment or assuming an injury will heal on its own carries real risk. A contusion can mask deeper soft tissue or muscle damage, while nerve-related symptoms like numbness, tingling, or pain that spreads can develop over the following days. Left unaddressed, minor injuries have a way of becoming chronic pain, limited mobility, or complications that take longer to treat the longer they're left.

Delaying care can also affect a person's ability to pursue a claim if one becomes necessary. Under New Jersey's verbal threshold law, which applies to many auto insurance policies, a person generally needs to show a permanent injury or another qualifying outcome to recover for pain and suffering.

Gaps between the crash and the first medical visit give insurers room to argue an injury wasn't serious or wasn't caused by the crash at all, regardless of how the person actually feels.

Getting checked out soon after a crash protects both a person's recovery and their options down the road. Our team at the Law Offices of Sander Budanitsky is available to review your available medical records and explain to you how they may fit into a claim.
