Worker Rescued After Trench Collapse on Hoboken Rd in East Rutherford, NJ

East Rutherford, NJ (August 1, 2026) – A worker was rescued after becoming trapped in a trench while performing excavation work at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church on Hoboken Rd on Friday evening, July 31.

Emergency crews responded to the church around 5:40 p.m. According to police, the worker, who had reportedly been hired to perform excavation work at the property, became trapped up to his knees while digging.

Rescuers worked for more than an hour before successfully freeing the worker from the trench. Officials have not released information regarding the worker's condition.

The incident remains under investigation.
