What Evidence to Preserve After a Crash in Ocean City, NJ
Acting quickly to preserve evidence after a crash can significantly affect how a claim is later evaluated.
Photos of the scene, any vehicle damage, and the final positions of both before they’re moved can be difficult to recreate once the scene clears. If a bicycle is involved, a cyclist’s helmet, clothing, and the bike itself can also serve as physical evidence showing the force and angle of impact, so preserving these items rather than repairing or discarding them matters.
A personal injury lawyer can help track down the finalized police report, request any available surveillance footage before it’s overwritten, and reach out to witnesses while their memories are still fresh.
New Jersey’s modified comparative negligence rule allows an injured cyclist to recover damages as long as they’re found 50 percent or less at fault, making early evidence especially important if fault becomes disputed.
