Union, NJ (October 17, 2026) — A pedestrian was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash on Chestnut Street in Union on Thursday night, October 15.
According to Union Township police, a gray Dodge Durango struck a man before the driver fled the scene toward Roselle Park.
The injured person was hospitalized with a serious head injury.
Authorities have not provided further details about the vehicle’s direction of travel beyond its reported movement toward Roselle Park. The crash is still being investigated.
We hope the injured pedestrian has a steady and full recovery.
Pedestrians injured in hit-and-run accidents in Union, NJ, may have options for compensation even if the driver has not been identified. Depending on the circumstances, potential sources include the at-fault driver’s insurance, uninsured motorist coverage, or other available insurance benefits.
Identifying the driver and preserving evidence can help investigators locate the vehicle and support an injury claim. Police reports, witness statements, and nearby surveillance footage may provide valuable leads.
Leaving the scene can have serious legal consequences. New Jersey law requires drivers involved in qualifying crashes to stop and fulfill their legal obligations. However, criminal responsibility and civil liability are separate matters, and each depends on the evidence and applicable law.
For injured pedestrians, the financial impact may include medical bills, lost income, and rehabilitation costs. Depending on their circumstances and available coverage, Personal Injury Protection (PIP) benefits, uninsured motorist coverage, or other insurance policies may help cover these losses.
Because pursuing compensation after a hit-and-run can involve specific insurance requirements and legal deadlines, preserving medical records and documenting expenses is important. New Jersey generally allows two years to file a personal injury lawsuit, although exceptions may apply.
