Union, NJ (October 17, 2026) — A 58-year-old employee was hospitalized with multiple fractures after becoming trapped by a conveyor machine at the Cintas building in Union on Thursday morning, October 15.
Union police responded to the accident at approximately 10:30 a.m. at 546 Green Lane. Officers found the employee trapped by the machinery.
Union firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded and successfully freed the worker. He was transported to University Hospital in Newark for treatment of multiple fractures to both legs and a broken hip. His injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.
The incident remains under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Our thoughts are with the injured worker and his loved ones, and we wish him a smooth recovery.
A worker injured in an industrial accident in Union, NJ, may qualify for workers’ compensation benefits covering medical treatment and a portion of lost wages. Depending on how the accident occurred, a separate third-party claim may also be possible.
New Jersey’s workers’ compensation system generally covers eligible employees with work-related injuries, regardless of employer negligence. Benefits may include medical care, temporary disability payments, and compensation for permanent impairment.
However, determining whether additional legal options exist may require a closer look at the accident. Industrial incidents can raise questions about equipment safeguards, maintenance, employee training, and workplace safety. An OSHA investigation may help clarify what happened and whether safety requirements were violated, although an investigation alone does not establish fault.
If the evidence shows that a third party, such as an equipment manufacturer or maintenance contractor, contributed to the accident, the injured worker may have grounds for an additional claim. Whether such a claim is available depends on the specific circumstances.
To help protect their rights, injured workers should preserve medical records, accident reports, and proof of missed work while following applicable reporting and claim procedures. New Jersey generally imposes a two-year deadline for filing a workers’ compensation claim petition, although exceptions may apply.
