Plainfield, NJ – Two Parents Killed in Apartment Fire on W Front St

Plainfield, NJ (December 1, 2025) – On Sunday morning, November 30, a devastating apartment fire in Plainfield claimed the lives of two parents and displaced numerous residents.

The fire erupted around 1:00 a.m. inside an apartment on West Front Street, sending a wall of flames shooting from the top-floor unit. Hugo Fernandez, the building superintendent, reported that a couple and their two small children lived in the apartment where the blaze originated. Fernandez rushed door-to-door attempting to evacuate residents and encountered the children fleeing the unit without shoes or warm clothing in freezing conditions.

Fernandez attempted to reach the burning apartment but was forced back by the intense heat and thick black smoke. Other residents, including Andres Perez, also ran through hallways banging on doors to alert neighbors. The Red Cross later assisted Perez and his family and temporarily relocated as they work to determine whether their belongings can be salvaged.

Hours after the fire was extinguished, some residents were allowed to return to assess the damage left behind. According to neighbors, the couple and their children were transported to the hospital, where, unfortunately, the parents later succumbed to their injuries. The children survived.

The identities of the deceased adults have not yet been released. Plainfield Police Department continues investigating the cause of the incident.
